It was a good Sunday...Walnut Cafe for breakfast, and then a nice long hike up Bear Peak in South Boulder. We started out on Mesa Trail just before noon (at around 5,400'), and proceeded
to the summit via Fern Canyon Trail. (Note, one section of this trail gains 2,100' in 1.3 miles!) We made it to the summit at 8,461' for an elevation gain of over 3,000'. Going back, we took the Bear Canyon Trail which had incredible views of Indian Peaks. We had perfect weather...mid-70s, with a slight breeze and clear skies. We've got summit fever now, and hope to climb some other local peaks before venturing out to try some of Colorado's 54 fourteeners.

This past Sunday we drove around Estes Park and fell in love with the views surrounding the
Black Canyon Inn. On Tuesday, we secured the site's
deck area for a small wedding on Friday, September 26 of this year.

On Wednesday, I went on a hike in South Boulder near an area called Table Mesa, into Bear Canyon alo
ng Mesa Trail. It was a beautiful day...the sun was out and there was a slight breeze. After getting spooked by two snakes and spotting bear tracks (or what appeared to be bear tracks...you be the judge), I decided it was time
to turn around. The picture above is of the second snake I encountered, as the first one had me sprinting away. While it looks small and unintimidating, I'm still having nightmares about the first (BIG) one. Snakes definitely have a way of seeking me out. As Ken can tell you, we see a snake on almost every hike we go on, and I've mountain biked over two of them! About three years ago, I almost stepped on three snakes (two male snakes trying to fertilize the egg of a female snake) as I stepped out on the porch. Since I always have my camera nearby,
